James Vincent Caldwell, age 85, of Beacon Falls entered into rest on Monday, November 6, 2017 in his home. He is the beloved husband of 62 years of Frances (Garafolo) Caldwell. James was born in Shelton on January 21, 1932, son of the late J. Vincent and Marjorie (Wright) Caldwell, and was a life long valley resident.
He proudly served his country with the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. James worked as a postal clerk at the Shelton Post Office for many years before his retirement. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the USS Pittsburgh CA-72 Association, the USS Albany CA-123 Association, the United States Naval Cruisers Sailors Association, and the American Legion. He was also a former member of the Storm Engine Co. #2 in Derby, and was a longtime member and supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Explorers, the Derby HS Band, and the Storms Ambulance Corps. James enjoyed going to the casino and he was an avid animal lover.
He is the beloved father of Patricia Caldwell of Beacon Falls and Mary Caldwell Mengual and her husband John B of East Berlin. He also leaves three cherished grandchildren, John J Mengual, Melissa Bernadel, and Kimberly Mengual, two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Mengual and Maya Bernadel, his sister Patricia King, several nieces and nephews and his beloved “grand-dog” Molly Malone. He was predeceased by two sisters, Bonita and Mary Caldwell.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby on Friday from 3 to 6 PM. His funeral service, with Full Military Honors, will begin at 6 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contribuions may be made to VA Medical Center, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
